MULTI-TRACK RECORDING

the GREAT DEBATE

Digital is better.  Analog is warmer.  Digital is brittle.  Analog loses quality.  Digital is CD quality.  What does any of this mean?

Welcome to one of the biggest sales hoaxes since "new Coke".  The digital vs. analog debate is one of the best examples of "let's you and him fight.... while we sell all our new products" ever invented.  Let's try a little common sense.

Common Sense Rules

  1.  There is no machinery that can make people with no talent sound like they have talent.

  2.  A recording project will not take less time or work if you go digital.

  3.  Analog is not obsolete.

  4.  Racks and racks of outboard gear  do you no good if it you don't get to use it.

  5.  QUALITY in a recording is produced by the people involved, not the equipment.

  6.  Always use the best aspects of whatever format, or formats, you have access to.

  7.  If it sounds right, then you did it right.

  8.  A good engineer needs superior ears and instincts more than knobs, dials and little
        flashing lights.

The secret to a great recording is a great performance. By every one involved.  Live or in the studio.  The old adage applies -  you only get out of something what you put into it.  The equipment only needs to be adequate.  And some one has to know what to do with it.

ZOLLA PRODUCTIONS uses TASCAM digital and analog decks,  TASCAM  and BIAMP mixers. LEXICON and ALESIS and YAMAHA processors.  And a lot of other names you've heard of.  We have about 1000 sq. ft. with up to 9 isolation rooms or booths.  We specialize in live recording using isolation for each instrument and voice.  And we have REAL bathroom reverb.  That's  right.  The bathroom is a great wet booth (pun intended).  A  YAMAHA Stage Custom drum kit with SABIAN cymbals  is available at no extra charge if you want it.  An acoustic piano restoration is in process.  Various  guitars, basses and keyboards.  A lot of places have more,  some have less.

But most important.....we know what to do with it.
